Abstract: Swarm-based systems are becoming essential in modern national security, defense, and marine forensics applications due to their diverse range of capabilities. To behave intelligently and perform tasks collaboratively, these systems must use Swarm Intelligence (SI). SI comprises several core principles, which this work intends to examine. Agents will apply these fundamental principles in various national security and forensic operations. When used in national security operations, SI can do autonomous surveillance and patrol operations without the need for centralized coordination. It improves intrusion detection and threat response. In marine forensics, swarm-based underwater systems work collaboratively to locate and map submerged evidence. Their decentralized search capabilities help cover large areas efficiently and carefully recover evidence from maritime crime scenes. Despite the advantages, the SI faces integration challenges, including ensuring communication reliability, addressing environmental uncertainty, and maintaining ethical oversight. This work identifies several future research directions in this field. This study demonstrates that swarm intelligence enables investigators to work safely and effectively. Using the technologies improves overall safety and ensures that forensic evidence is reliable.
